A graduate of George Washington University, Doug started working for Winkler Pool Management, Inc., in 1972. The business was founded by his father, Dr. Lawrence Winkler in 1954 as Swimco. Doug learned the business from the ground up, and, in 1980, he took over as President.
A "hands-on" President, Doug personally manages all the administrative and accounting work for this company as well as for three other businesses he owns with his partner, Steve Wilmot. With Steve's enthusiasm for sales and Doug's head for numbers, they indeed make the perfect team.
Although his staff has grown to the point where Doug should never have to go into the field to perform work, he often does. Basically, he wouldn't ask anyone to do anything he wouldn't be willing to do himself.
Doug lives just outside of Annapolis, Maryland with his wife Pattie and has two children, Kelsey, who is a Junior in High School and Brendan, who is a Freshman at Salisbury State University. A "die-hard" Washington Redskins fan, Doug's other interests include boating, reading, and traveling.
Steve Wilmot is the Executive Vice-President of Winkler Pool Management and has been with the company since 1974. He worked his way up from the position of lifeguard, learning all aspects of service and pool management, to become a partner in the business. His motto of "think like an owner" has obviously served him well.
Steve is also a certified Pool Operator Instructor and frequently speaks to groups on all aspects of management, service and sales. Truly the "quintessential" salesman of our group, he never misses the opportunity to teach his employees how to hone their sales skills whether it be selling chemicals, service or pool management.
He resides in Centreville, Virginia with his wife Kathy and their two teenage sons, Spencer and Tyler. An avid golfer, he also enjoys spending his free time with family and friends on the South River near Annapolis.
Chris Waters came to Winkler Pool Management in December, 1998 and has been in the swimming pool industry since the 1980s. He has held various positions from Area Supervisor, Service Technician, Account Executive (sales) to Regional Manager.
This "jack-of-all-pool-trades" came to Winkler filling vacant positions as time went by in the management, sales and service aspects of the business. He has now come to rest comfortably after several years with us, firmly entrenched in his position of Vice-President.
Chris went to college and graduated with a degree in Computer Science. He currently lives in Bristow, Virginia with his wife, Diane, her son A.J. and their daughter, Maddie. In his free time he enjoys skiing, snowboarding and spending time with his family.
Chris Ramos, one of our two Regional managers for the DC/MD area, has been working in the pool industry since he was seventeen. As with many of our personnel, Chris started out as a lifeguard. He worked for American Pool Management from 1991 to 2007 where he guarded, supervised and worked as a Regional Manager. He came to us this past September and has been working closely with Jesse Morgan, our other Regional Manager for the DC/MD area. He will help manage over 80 pools and 8 Area Supervisors during the summer season.
He currently lives in Gaithersburg, MD and enjoys playing guitar with his church group, summer basketball and snowboarding in the winter.
Jesse Morgan joined our Management Team in March of 2007, as a Regional Manager for the DC/MD area. He works closely with our other Regional Manager for the area, Chris Ramos, managing over 80 pools and 8 Area Supervisors during the summer season.
Formerly a U.S. Marine, Jesse has been in the pool business since 1994. He worked for many years with Century Pools, starting as a Drain-and-Cleaner and moving up to the position of Regional Manager before coming to Winkler.
He currently lives in Ft. Washington, MD and has two teenage children, Jesse and Jessica. When he is not working he enjoys photography and remote-control cars.
David Waters joined our Management Team in January of 2008 as a Regional Manager for the VA area. He and his brother, Chris Waters, a Vice-President and long-time employee at Winkler, will work together to manage over 125 pools and 10 Area Supervisors during the summer season.
David is a University of Maryland graduate with a degree in Business Administration. As with countless others, he started in the pool industry as a lifeguard, and that was one of many jobs he held while he pursued his education.
He currently lives in Centreville, VA with his fiancé, Kylie and has one son, Ajani. His hobbies include martial arts (he currently holds a 4th degree black belt in Hwar Do!), reading, motorcycles, and watching sports.
Kirk Southworth joined the Winkler team in 2000 as Service Coordinator for our entire service area. He heads up our service teams in DC/MD and Northern Virginia, which do everything from the pre-season draining and cleaning of pools to minor repairs and major renovations, as well as provide weekly service for various hotels, government and other commercial facilities.
Kirk began his own business, CAS Enterprises in 1986 and has subcontracted his services over the years to many pool companies including Aqualin, Swimkare and Winkler. He not only specializes in pool repair but is also proficient in plumbing, heating and air-conditioning.
Currently residing in Laurel, Maryland with his wife, Denise, Kirk is active with his church's youth group and enjoys playing softball. Family is always a priority as he spends his free time with his son, Kirk Jr., daughter Melissa and grandsons, Kyle and Hunter.
Diyana Petrova joined Winkler Pool Management in the role of Staffing Assistant in 2005, primarily staffing the Northern Virginia Area pools and functioning as an integral part of our International Staffing Program. Diyana is from Bulgaria, and is one of our international students who started as a lifeguard in and has risen to her present position. A highly ambitious and educated woman, she is bi-lingual, fluent in Bulgarian and English, and has earned her B.A. in Public Relations at the University of Sofia and her Masters degree in Business Administration before coming to work in the United States.
Diyana Petrova now has the lead role in the International Student recruitment efforts and will be the primary contact for J-1 and H2-B recruitment. Her ability to speak to the students in their native tongues has proven invaluable in the staffing process and allows the students to feel more at home while they are here working in the United States.
Diyana enjoys "endless summers", meeting new people, spending time with good friends and visiting family in Bulgaria when time permits.
One of the newest additions to our WPM team is Shamara Moore. Shamara is a University of MD - Eastern Shore graduate with a bachelor’s degree in Marine and Environmental Sciences. Since her graduation in 1999, she has worked for American Pools doing everything from lifeguarding to supervising.
Shamara joins us as our Staffing Director for the DC/MD area, but she began with Winkler as a lifeguard at one of our most prestigious government facilities. She will now work closely with our other Staffing Directors, Megan Baker and Diyana Petrova. Together they will staff our pools for the summer season as well as for our year-round facilities.
Shamara lives in Riverdale, MD with her husband and two sons, Shaquille and T.J. and enjoys singing and reading in her free time.
Another new addition to our WPM Management Team is Megan Baker. Megan is a recent graduate of George Mason University with a bachelor’s degree in Sports Management. She began working in the pool industry in 2001, lifeguarding and teaching swim lessons.
Megan joins us as our Staffing Director for the Northern VA area. She will be working closely with our other staffing directors, Shamara Moore and Diyana Petrova. Together they will staff our pools for the summer season as well as for our year-round facilities.
